Today, at the State University of Tetova was the opening ceremony of the Centre for Peace and Transcultural Communication. This center was launched by SUT Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, Executive Vice President and Provost of Northern Illinois University, Mrs. Lisa C. Freeman and Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia, Abdilaqim Ademi.

The SUT Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti addressed a speech to the participants in this inauguration, who said that this center is meant to promote peace, conflict management and intercultural understanding worldwide.

“I am pleased to address you today on this important day for students, professors and the public opinion, because today, we, together with Northern Illinois University, from the United States of America, have opened the Center for Peace and Transcultural Management. The founding of this center aims to promote global peace, conflict management and intercultural understanding. Centre for Peace and Transcultural Management, based at the State University of Tetova, aims to provide neutral academic platform, in which will be based the promotion of the diversity of discussions, with the aim of achieving peace through education models.

Through this centre, governments, students and key stakeholders will have access to resources to effectively manage conflicts and misunderstandings, to ensure global peace and economic prosperity”, said the SUT Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.

The Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti also said that our universities, founders of the center, will be engaged specifically in conducting the research of issues related to peace and intercultural management, will create a base of information on critical regional issues, will organize workshops, symposia and annual conferences, in which academic lectures will be held in accordance with our joint mission. “Apart from the aforementioned activities, the Centre for Peace and Transcultural Management in the future will offer certification training programs, symposia, courses for students, as well as for any other intercultural program that the center’s officials consider important for the implementation of the mission. On this occasion, on behalf of the leadership of the University, academic staff and students, we would like to express our deep appreciation to the leaders of Northern Illinois University, from the United States of America, for their willingness to establish this center at a time when peace and communication between people has become a top priority for all of us”, said the SUT Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.

Vice Rector of Northern Illinois University, Mrs. Lisa C. Freeman, said that through this center it will be created a new model for intercultural and interethnic collaboration. “We are very enthusiastic for the collaboration with the State University of Tetova and for this I thank the Rector of the State University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, as well as the Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Abdilaqim Ademi, who is here with us. Through this collaboration we want to create a model of intercultural and interethnic cooperation here in Macedonia. It's a good opportunity for us to demonstrate academic strength for the benefit of the academic world and the community. Through this collaboration we will promote democracy, peace, intercollegiate collaboration and create bridges of collaboration among students also”, said Mrs. Lisa C. Freeman.

On the other hand, the Minister of Education and Science, Abdilaqim Ademi said that this center has a great symbolic significance and is launched in the most important moment for the region.

“I am glad to be here today at this modest ceremony, but with a great symbolic significance, not only for SUT, but also for the whole country, because today is launched a center which is not based in the capital of our country, which is usual for such centers to be opened in the capital cities, but instead, it is being opened in Tetovo, at the State University of Tetova, and here lies the symbolism, because through this center, SUT, Tetovo, our country and the region will convey the American experience for democratic processes in our country, for the prevention or the management of conflicts, and also the promotion of peace between nations and peace in the region.

This center is launched at the moment I would say the most important for the region, especially given the challenges our country, the region and Europe is facing and I hope that the US experience will be conveyed very well through this center and through the State University of Tetova. The Ministry of Education and Science and the Government of Republic of Macedonia, highly estimates this action and the step taken by both universities. We encourage both universities to continue their collaboration and this will be a window for students and the academic staff, but also for the university in general, to cooperate and to expand their collaboration to apply for various European and international funds, but more important, I think this center and this experience can be conveyed very well by the university, because university is an institution where there are not only employees and the academic staff and students, the university has positive influence and role in society and this center, I believe it will be as I said earlier, a center from which will be conveyed the American experience for conflict prevention and the management and promotion of values of peace and will be one that will promote in the United States of America not only our university and our country but also the Albanian people in general. Thank you and congratulations”, said the Minister of Education and Science, Abdilaqim Ademi.

At the inauguration of this center present was the academic staff of SUT, like vice-rectors, Secretary General, senators, deans, heads of study programs, professors, students and other guests.
