University of Tetova, in cooperation with Northern Illinois University from Chicago, United States, organized a scientific conference titled: “The impact of US policy in promoting democracy, peace, state-building, economic recovery, and protection of national, religious and civic values in the region”.

Rector of University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, at the opening of the conference said that the conference brought together eminent scholars of national and regional political scene, well-known scientists in the field of politics, culture and economy, who have and are constantly contributing in areas they represent.

“First, allow me on behalf of the University of Tetova and on my own behalf to express satisfaction for organizing of this joint scientific conference, titled: “The impact of US policy in promoting democracy, peace, state-building, economic recovery, and protection of national, religious and civic values in the countries of the region”. The organization of international scientific conference comes as a result of the founding of the Centre for Peace and Transcultural Management by our University and the University of Northern Illinois in Chicago, United States of America. Having in its focus the abovementioned topics, today's conference brought together eminent scholars of national and regional political scene, renowned scientists in the field of politics, culture and economics who have given and are constantly giving their valuable contribution in the areas they represent. The United States of America, the most developed and consolidated democracy in the world, have become the main promoters and supporters of universal values in our region. Guided by the principle of freedom, as a fundamental right of all people, the American people, in the most difficult moments was on the side of people who seek the realization of their rights. It is sufficient to mention the US authorities' commitment in strengthening the institutions in the country and the democratization of the rule of law”, said the Rector of University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti. He also added that renowned international relations scholars, the growth of US influence worldwide, they have estimated that this century is the century of the Americans and their role is especially important for the people who cannot project strength. “Progress and development in the countries of our region, under conditions of prolonged transition, represents a challenge for governments and respective institutions, but the strengthening of political, economic, educational relations with the US and the West in general, has led to different disputes to be resolved more easily. Balkan Peninsula still remains a landing field of young and old landers, and this situation is the result of delays in many countries of the region into the Euro-Atlantic structures, however, our American friends answered to this concern with their mediation policies. American diplomacy has increased its diplomatic actions in the Balkan region to unblock the political processes in our countries and to make way for reforms in many areas, such as the judiciary, reformation of public administration, proportional representation in the state pyramid of all communities in the service of citizens, regardless of nationality, race and religion and the right perception of the phenomenon called Euro-Atlantic integration. All this, inter alia, has contributed to the reformation of the educational process, both in primary and secondary education, as well in tertiary education” added Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.

Vice Rector of Northern Illinois University of Chicago, USA, Prof. Dr. Bradley Bond appreciated that the joint foundation of the Center for Peace and Transcultural Management by the two universities is a very important step in the promotion of common values of two peoples. “It's my pleasure to be here in your midst, it is a good opportunity for all of us here to know each other. 6 months ago, during a visit to another country, I told the audience that the University of Tetova is a very important partner of Northern Illinois University in the Balkans and that together we established the Center for Peace and Transcultural Management, headquartered in the premises of the University of Tetova.

Through this Center, both our universities today also organize the next scientific conference, which addresses the impact of US policy in promoting democracy, peace, state-building, economic recovery, and protection of national, religious and civic values of the countries of the region. This activity, as well as other joint activities that we have conducted and we plan to accomplish in the future, are a good example of promoting common ideas and values of both our people and with this, bridges of friendship between the two communities are built”, said Prof. Dr. Bradley Bond.

It was also said that the organization of such a scientific conference not only contributes to the building of bridges of friendship between the peoples of the region, but with the scientific potential it has, it will help in better understanding the phenomena, the problems our society in all areas, including politics, economy, culture, language, etc., and as such will maintain the tradition of cooperation between the two universities to further cultivate the culture of communication between the academic community.
