With a solemn academy, today at the University of Tetova was marked November 28, Declaration of Albania's Independence Day, known among Albanians as the Flag Day. This day is the greatest and the most important holiday among Albanians of all territories, because it reminds us that we are one, despite ideological, religious, provincial and dialectical conviction and divisions.

On behalf of the University of Tetova and the Rector, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, the academy was declared opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Ibish Kadriu. He said that November 28 is the day of a century-old dream come true, the fulfillment of Albanians’ great political, cultural and spiritual project. "This national project also had its predecessors, led by our national hero, Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, who in 1443, in the old capital of Albania, in Kruja, raised the red and black flag. Today, all Albanians wherever they are they celebrate, regardless their religion, ideas and province, because it is a nationwide holiday, a day of joy and pride, a day marked with golden letters. In this historic date, after many continuous efforts, with arms and pens, over the centuries, has been revived our national being, history and our future. Aware of this great year and their European testament, the founding fathers of the Albanian state chose exactly the November 28, as the Second November of the Albanian Renaissance. In Vlora, the day when the flag elder, Ismail Qemali announced the sacred decision, were together all the Albanian revivalists, dead and alive, because in that act were embodied together the Albanian spirit and patriotism. Flag Day is the Independence Day of all Albanians, which later was halved, but it’s the most important day in the history of our nation, because the flag raised in this day, will always be the sign of unity of Albanian nation, the mirror where we can see ourselves, the justice of our ideas and the weight of our action", said Prof, Dr. Ibish Kadriu.

In this academy, the historian, Prof. Dr. Fehari Ramadani held a thematic lecture for this important date. "As a result of the violation of national rights and the violence by Young Turk authorities during the years 1909-1912, Albanians developed four anti-Ottoman uprisings. Each subsequent uprising was more massive and with advanced demands. One of the four uprisings, the most important one, was the general uprising of 1912. It was extended almost in all Albanian territories and its basic demand was the creation of an autonomous Albanian state. The proclamation of independence and the creation of the Albanian national state was an act of vital importance to our people. It marked the overthrow of Ottoman domination, which had held Albania for almost five centuries under a medieval repression. The declaration of independence is the most important event in our national history. It was the coronation of century-old efforts for freedom and independence”, said Prof. Dr. Fehari Ramadani.

This academic celebration was enriched with an artistic program prepared by the students of the Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Tetova.
