At the University of Tetova today, the Faculty of Economics organized a debate on the topic of: “Defining the priorities of economic developments in the Republic of Macedonia”. This debate was attended by university professors, experts in the field of economy, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, representatives of enterprises, representatives of the banking sector, businessmen and students.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Dr. Raman Ismaili, said that the topic of this gathering is quite complex and multidimensional, having into the consideration the fact that in many aspects Republic of Macedonia is still at crossroads, not only because of the external challenges the country is facing but also of problems and difficulties in the internal plan. According to him, these problems in addition to the political dimension, to a large extent they intertwine the economic dimension as well, as one of the main fields for guaranteeing the functionality of a contemporary democracy in every sense of the word. “In the broader perspective, it is constantly discussed about development and a developmental priority, the fact is that very few defined development priorities are operationalized and have remained within the overall goals of the general frameworks within which the economic system of the country should function. Therefore, it has become clear that it is not enough to make general plans and development strategies, development priorities in counting forms, but rather to undertake a broader activity that would have involved since the stage of formulating the priorities, views and attitudes of representatives of academic world, universities, attitudes of economic chambers, small, medium and large businesses, craftsmen, civil society and other interested parties”- said the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Dr. Raman Ismaili.

President of the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia, Nebi Hoxha, said that in terms of defining the priorities for economic development in our country, besides many of our requests and proposals, such as the voice of business and economic experts from universities, to have growth and economic development priorities, we still haven’t managed to have a medium-term and long-term strategy instrument for such a thing. “This process can start with a transformation in order to generate products that have higher value and higher technology in manufacturing processes. The pillar of this transformation will be innovation and increased capacities of enterprises, a fuller network of industries linked to gain synergy, green technology, sustainable production and diversification of the export and import market”- said the president of the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia, Nebi Hoxha.

Among other things, it was stated that this debate aims the creation of an academic and scientific platform that with all its academic and intellectual capacity will be available to find and provide the appropriate and enforceable alternatives to more efficiently channel the economic measures in terms of promoting a more intensive economic and overall social development in general.
