Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition of the University of Tetova also and this year marked October 16, World Food Day Dean of this faculty, Prof.Dr. Xhezair Idrizi said that this event aimed to raise the public awareness of the importance of food and its role in the health of the individual. “Today, we mark the World Food Day, this day is commemorated every year since 1981, and dates back to 1945, when in Quebec City, Canada, where unites together several states and form the agency, or the World Food Programme. The purpose of today’s activity is to raise awareness of policymaking and many other organizations, so that some of the food not to be misused, because today we have two categories of people in the world; one part lacks the nutrition, otherwise referred as malnutrition, the other part has a surplus of food”, said Prof. Dr. Xhezair Idrizi.
In addition, the Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition, Prof. Dr. Xhezair Idrizi said that this year the faculty that the leads, in cooperation with the Albiz Foundation, have managed to provide several packages of food for various social cases. “We have provided 50 food packages, which we will distribute together with our students on various social cases, and we appeal to all state institutions, starting to the government, ministries, municipalities, religious communities, various organizations, also restaurants to help people in need, to not feel the lack of food”, said among other things Prof. Dr. Xhezair Idrizi.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Nefrus Çeliku, said that according to the latest data, about 450,000 people in the Republic of Northern Macedonia are at risk of poverty and hunger, while at the same time about 10,000 tons of food are dumped every year, worth about 12 million euro’s. “The government in its program aims to make legislative solutions and legal changes to regulate donation of food abuse across the country, where at the moment, where at present our country is unfortunately counted in countries where not every citizen has food enough to feed itself and its family”, said Nefrus Çeliku.
In honor of this day was held a short professional lecture by Doc. Dr. Merije Elezi, with topic: “Zero hunger”, while in a sign of appreciation for the support and cooperation with the Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition, the University of Tetova bestowed a gratitude to the Albiz Foundation.
