Dear colleagues, The Association of Asian and Pacific Universities (AAPU) in cooperation with the Academy and the Semester of the Master Institute Development (MIDAS) in Bangkok, Thailand, announce the first AUAP Student English Debate Competition (SEDC) competition to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, during the period from October 15-20, 2018.

Participating teams should be prepared to compete on the affirmative or negative side, based on all the following topics:

  1. ASEAN should be integrated as a community, like the European Union.
  2. ASEAN should apply its English language training requirements for college students.
  3. Physical sentences are useful to put discipline among children.
  4. ASEAN should adopt a common monetary system.
  5. Marriages regulated by law are useful to society.

The purpose of holding this debate is to prepare students and enlighten their skills in English as well as to develop critical thinking and reasoning.

This debate will give them the opportunity to discuss with calmness, clarity and competence on very complex topics. It will also include the skills of persuasion as well as understanding the depth of the topics. Encouraging the creativity of the debaters by offering a wide range of alternatives that consist in highlighting the benefits of collaboration and teamwork, society and cultural interconnection in everyday life.

On behalf of the association, we have the honor to invite your institution to appoint a team of three (3) students and one (1) tutor to participate in the first AUAP Student Debate competition. We will only examine the first 32 teams that will take part in the competition.

The deadline for appointing your team is 31 May, 2018, until 12:00 (local time in Bangkok, Thailand).
