On March 6 and 7, 2020, at “Fan S. Noli” University of Korça was held the Second Conference of the Rectors of the Albanian Public Universities. The gathering was attended by the most renowned universities nationwide. On behalf of the public universities in the Republic of North Macedonia, the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, emphasized that he feels honored to participate in this important higher education event, where are presented the results of educational work.
“As the leader of a University, which is known throughout history as a forged institution to withstand the challenges and overcome them, despite the difficulties we face along the way, we have not stopped our commitment, our efforts to preserve and the development of shared educational and national values, to increase the level of cooperation between higher education institutions and to promote academic freedom in the universities we represent today. This meeting of rectors takes place at a time when our countries are eagerly awaiting the long-awaited news from the European Union about the date for the start of accession negotiations with the large European family. During all of this journey to become part of a union that embodies standards, civilization and civility, of course universities have the main merit, not only in preparing educated staff, in implementing projects and educational programs, but also in applying advanced systems in our institutions, today we share values with dozens of universities – whose states have long been part of the European Union. Referring also to the pivotal theme of this conference: “Albanian Public Universities Facing the Challenges of the European Higher Education Area”, I consider that Albanian Universities today are more open, cheaper and represent the basis for the circulation of progressive ideas and attendance of people. We aspire to be part of Europe because Europe has seduced us with its platform, where everyone’s rights are respected, where everyone plays the main role, so I say, let’s do our job, let’s develop the education and science, and the governments to fulfill their obligations by specifically supporting the universities. In our conditions, I think this is the only alternative to jointly step towards European space and aim at meeting the objectives, which, for example, are university development and progress, the unification of the higher education system according to European norms, the unification of programs, the equivalence of university diplomas, exchange of experiences, educational staff and students, and other forms of cooperation of common interest”, said the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.
On the second day, the “Memorial of the Second Conference of the Rectors of the Albanian Public Universities” was signed, where it is foreseen that the proceedings of the third conference of the Rectors of the Albanian public universities will take place at the University of Tetova.
On this occasion, the Rector of UT stated: “We are pleased to accept the assignment because it is a very big responsibility, because this conference and the next conference to be held next year will come to conclusions that will enhance the education in Albanian language. I believe that during the organization of that conference we will be able to form a union of Albanian-speaking universities, establish a university secretariat, which will draft the Statute of the Conference of Rectors and the rules of procedure of the conference. It is advisable for the secretariats to be in three Albanian cities in Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia. Then we will try to have a web site of this association which will show all the achievements and work of this association, cooperation between universities in joint national and international projects, as well as the creation of a database of plagiarists, database of scientific papers and journals ”, emphasized the Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.
At the end of the proceedings of the aforementioned conference, the Rector of UT, to the host of the aforementioned meeting, the Rector of the University, “F. S. Noli ”, Prof. Dr. Ali Jashari donated the portrait of the founder and first Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Fadil Sulejmani and the newest university publishing. Also, during our stay in Korça, our rector was also received by the Mayor of Korça, Mr. Sotiraq Filo, where he held a warm friendly conversation with special emphasis on higher education in all Albanian territories. They agreed that only through cooperation, organization of meetings of this nature will enhance the general educational – scientific processes. To the Mayor of Korça, our Rector donated the mosaic of the House of the Alphabet in Bitola and some scientific publications of our University.
