At the University of Tetova, at the Faculty of Philosophy, on March 16, 2023, a workshop was held on the topic of “Media Literacy”. This workshop was organized by the Institute for Communication Studies within the “Use Facts” Project, a project funded by the British Embassy in Skopje.
The organizers of this activity emphasized that the workshop aims to provide support to citizens, journalists and civil society organizations to increase the public’s understanding of the origin, motives and impact of misinformation in society. According to them, in the time of mass information, special attention should be paid to the veracity of objective information based only on confirmed sources, as the only way to fight fake news that has become our common challenge.
Students of the Psychology study program participated in the aforementioned workshop, who had the opportunity to discuss techniques to detect fake news. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Eleonora Serafimoska, who expressed her consideration for the active participation of the students and their positive attitudes towards the workshop, as well as thanked the leaders of the Faculty of Philosophy for their commitment in organizing this important activity.
According to the studies done for this purpose, it turns out that the media, especially the new ones and social networks, present “opportunities’ ‘ for those who try to manipulate the truth. As a result, these media are also changing the way of communication, at the same time refactoring the traditional media.
