“Universities and the Re-Construction of Cities: the role of Research and Education” was the main topic at the conference of Magna Charta Universitatum, which took place at the University of Lodz in Poland, on October 22 – 25 2023, in which participated the delegation from the University of Tetova, headed by the President of the Senate of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, Vice-Rector for Science Prof. Dr. Agon Memeti, Head of the Office for Evaluation and Quality Management, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sheruze Osmani Ballazhi – and Head of the Center for Peace and Transcultural Communication at the University of Tetova, MSc. Donika Kamberi.
On October 22, the Head of the Office for Evaluation and Quality Management, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sheruze Osmani Ballazhi, presented the project: “How to deal with bullying?” Contribution of University of Tetova to community”, which was evaluated as one of the 6 highest quality projects with the greatest impact on the community, while on October 24 the leaders of the University of Tetova signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Lodz and shared gratitude with the Secretary General of the Observatory Magna Charta Universitatum, Mr. David J. Lock, and the Rector of the University of Lodz. Mrs. Elżbieta Żądzińska, who expressed thanks to the University of Tetova. As a sign of respect, the President of the Senate of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, and the Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Dr. Agon Memeti, bestowed to the Secretary General of the Observatory the portrait of Mother Teresa, the special edition of the journal “Filologjia” dedicated to Mother Teresa and the Logo of the University of Tetova.
Internationally renowned speakers offered new ideas and approaches to solving the challenges facing universities in times of crisis and war, discussions which were open to university leaders, students, policy makers and higher education actors, while special emphasis was given to the war in Ukraine and the challenges faced by students and academic staff.
The main goal was to enable universities to respond more effectively to the challenges they face, as well as to strengthen their ability to uphold fundamental values for the benefit of students, society and university communities, especially in crucial cases, when global solidarity is required against such aggressions.
At the end of the conference, the delegation of the University of Tetova offered unsparing help to students affected by the war in Ukraine. They were represented by Miss, Polina Hombalevska – President of the Student Union of Ukraine, to whom MSc. Donika Kamberi, in the capacity of the Head of the Center for Peace and Transcultural Communication, bestowed the portrait of the Albanian Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa, and the scientific magazine “Freedom”.
To date, more than 950 universities around the world are signatories of the Magna Charta Universitatum, thus aligning the values of academic autonomy and freedom, the promotion of teaching and research activities, within a framework of freedom and interaction between different cultures.
Every year the Observatory Magna Charta organizes an international conference to address the current challenges in preserving fundamental values, to serve society responsibly and celebrates with a ceremony, in which many rectors and university representatives sign the Magna Charta Universitatum.
