On September 20, 2025, in the warm and symbolic atmosphere of the International Youth Summit for Peace (BIYSP 2025), which is being held in Mitrovica from September 20 to 22, one of the most special moments was the awards and titles ceremony for “Ambassador of Peace”. This summit has brought together over 120 representatives from more than 40 countries around the world, including young people, professors, international experts, and civil society organizations, with the goal of building bridges of cooperation and promoting a culture of peace in the Balkans and beyond.

At this event, many prominent figures were present, including young people from various countries around the world, among them the former President of Albania, Mr. Alfred Mojsiu, the President of Kosovo, Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu, the Mayor of Preševo, Ms. Ardita Sinani, the Mayor of Mitrovica, Mr. Bedri Hamza, and others. A special place at this summit was held by the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, who was awarded the prestigious title of “Ambassador of Peace”. This recognition was given for his ongoing contribution in the field of education and his efforts in promoting intercultural and inter-university dialogue, transforming academia into an important space for cooperation and mutual understanding.

In his speech, the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, emphasized that this title is not only a personal recognition but also an invitation for greater commitment to the service of peace: “I do not consider this award as just a personal appreciation, but also as an invitation to work with responsibility, dedication, and will for peace on a local, regional, and global level”.

He reminded the audience of Herodotus’ words, distinguishing peace from war: “In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons”. According to him, the second part of this saying is a tragedy that should make us aware of the constant need to work for peace. Addressing the students present, the Rector highlighted the role of youth as the engine of positive change:

“You, dear students, with open minds, energy, and ideas, are the force that can make the world a better place for all people, regardless of ethnic, religious, ideological, or social background”.

Among other things, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli added that peace is a prerequisite for development and progress, and that youth initiatives for peace take on special importance in a time when the world is facing new conflicts and geopolitical tensions. For this reason, he urged young people to believe in the power of solidarity and to spread messages of peace wherever they are. The decoration of the Rector of the University of Tetova with the title “Ambassador of Peace” is a clear message that universities and youth can be the strongest pillars for building a more just, peaceful, and united society. In this way, BIYSP 2025 is not only an international event but a collective call for the Balkans and the world to see youth as the greatest guarantee for a peaceful future.
