December 3 – The International Day of Persons with Special Abilities, was also marked by the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Tetovo.
In honor of this category of society, our University organized a panel discussion, on the topic: “Challenges and barriers of inclusion in the educational system of the Republic of North Macedonia”. Initially, the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Kushtrim Ahmeti, together with the President of the Senate, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti and the Vice-Rector for Education, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Neziri, welcomed the students of this category to the meeting: Gadaf Memedi and Lavdrim Veli.
Vice Dean for Science of the Faculty of Pedagogy, Doc. Dr. Teuta Rasimi, in her speech, emphasized that the celebration of December 3 at the Faculty of Pedagogy of UT has now become a tradition, for each year, with different activities, we have tried to give proper attention and importance to people with special abilities.
Prof. Dr. Buniamin Memedi from the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation, said that the purpose of this panel was to talk about the challenges and barriers of inclusion in the Republic of North Macedonia, which teachers, students and parents of children with special needs face today. “The participants in this panel presented to the attendees the affirmative laws, which are applied in the RNM for the field of inclusion. And with all these affirmative convictions there are also the disadvantages that we discussed here today. There was talk about the philosophy of inclusive action, about the fact that all children should be included in the regular education system, about the role of the inclusive school team, about the role of the support resource centers of the inclusive school team, but at the same time it was also discussed about the role of the educational assistant in regular schools at the level of the RNM. We also discussed what has to do with early intervention in a job, which should be done for the students, where the preparation of these students with special needs also takes place. Although many personal assistants are accepted, at the moment in RNM and further in the schools there is a lack of educators who are the bearers of the inclusion process. We hope that they will be accepted as much as possible, because even in the albanian space, cadres have already been created, there are over 160 students who have graduated from the University of Tetova and they would help us in the process of inclusion”, emphasized Prof. Dr. Buniamin Memedi.
Likewise, the director of the “Faik Konica” Primary School from Dobroshti, Gjulser Rexhepi also expressed their views on this issue, as well as the special educators and rehabilitators, Adelina Haskaj from Skopje and Adile Rakipi from Tetova.
Also present at this event were the Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Dr. Agon Memeti, professors, directors of primary schools, students, teachers, defectologists, as well as parents of children with special needs.
