At the Faculty of Philology of the University of Tetova, four significant works by the renowned author Adnan Merovci were recently presented: Në hap me Rugovën (In Step with Rugova), Kështjella e (Mos) Marrëveshjes (The Castle of (Non) Agreement), Pengu (The Hostage), and Të Premtet (Fridays). These books delve into sensitive political and historical themes from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, focusing particularly on the figure of Ibrahim Rugova, the negotiation processes, and personal experiences during turbulent periods for Albanians in the Republic of Kosovo.
In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani, emphasized that the works of author Adnan Merovci are not ordinary publications but written testimonies with a clear awareness of their historical significance.
“The works presented today are more than bibliographic publications. They are documentary testimonies of a decisive era in the history of Kosovo and the Albanians in general. In them, not only the author speaks, but also the event, the challenge, the resistance, and the words that were spoken, as well as those that were silenced, the words that were written and those that were brought to life. They aim to awaken the collective consciousness, challenge oblivion, and direct the attention of new generations toward the truth. These works represent a valuable cultural and historical heritage—documents that speak with the strength of measured words and the weight of living memory,” said Dean Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani.
he Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Salajdin Salihi, also spoke about the author’s works. According to him, Ibrahim Rugova was the most atypical and authentic politician in Albanian political history and in Southeast Europe. “He was a thinker and activist who translated his ideas into action. Rugova understood that a nation could not achieve freedom and independence solely through its own forces. First, he crafted a political vision, then a strategy for internationalizing the issue of Kosovo, and worked to build alliances. The alliances or pacts with great powers that Rugova established are essential for Kosovo and the Albanians today and forever. Rugova was a man of few words. He did not engage in rhetoric but in politics. Those who indulge in excessive rhetoric do not engage in politics. His main principle was simple and essential: ‘Kosovo, an independent state, under temporary international protection, and open to Albania and Serbia.’ This vision became a reality,” stated Prof. Dr. Salajdin Salihi.
For the aforementioned works, their evaluations were presented by Prof. Dr. Zeqir Kadriu, Prof. Dr. Milaim Fetai, and journalist Seladin Xhezairi. The author of these works, Adnan Merovci, expressed his gratitude to the University of Tetova and to everyone who contributed to the realization of these works. He also spoke about his work “For the Scholar Ibrahim Rugova”. In his speech, Merovci shared personal memories and special moments with Rugova, describing him not only as a wise and visionary leader but also as a modest man dedicated to knowledge, culture, and peace.
This event was attended by professors, friends of the author, students, and other guests interested in the political and historical activity of President Ibrahim Rugova.
As part of this promotion, attendees had the opportunity to watch a documentary prepared by the author himself, which describes the ordeal of suffering and the efforts for freedom and independence.
