In the premises of the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law at the University of Tetova, was conducted the first part of the training for students of legal clinics in Tetovo.
The training “Provision of Free Legal Aid in the Republic of North Macedonia” was organized in cooperation with the Legal Clinic of the University of Tetova, the Legal Clinic of SEEU, and the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje, which funded its implementation. This activity is part of the “Towards a Consolidated and More Efficient Free Legal Aid (FLA) System in North Macedonia” which is part of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
The training was opened by Ms. Irena Cuculoska Jakimovska, Senior Project Manager at the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje, who spoke about the importance of the project for students of legal clinics in North Macedonia and the phases of its implementation by the Programme Office of the Council of Europe.In her welcoming remarks, Asst. Prof. Dr. Njomza Selimi Osmani, Coordinator of the Legal Clinic at the University of Tetova, emphasized the importance of the functioning of these clinics and the opportunity they provide for students to take their first steps in practical work in the profession they are studying for. Prof. Dr. Arta Mero, Coordinator of the Legal Clinic of SEEU, highlighted the work carried out by the clinics as well as the social impact they have achieved over the years of their operation.
The first part of this training, which was conducted today, focused on primary legal aid as the first component of providing free legal aid under the Law on Free Legal Aid. During this session, the certified trainers for the implementation of these trainings from the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje, Asst. Prof. Dr. Njomza Selimi–Osmani and Prof. Dr. Arta Mero, presented the legal framework and conducted practical exercises with students from the Faculty of Law of both legal clinics.
