The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Tetova in cooperation with Center for Development and Advancement of Public Life organized a debate on the topic of “Drugs and Youth”. Panelists of this debate spoke about the narcotics as a phenomenon, preventive measures and its accompanying consequences, including HIV, as well as other infectious diseases associated with people who use narcotic substances.
Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Kastriot Haxhirexha, said that the fact that today drugs addiction gallops anywhere in the world and including us in this phenomenon. Drug addiction is also known as the white epidemic. “This problem may affect every family, every educational institution, so efforts to minimize or prevent this phenomenon are based on two main pillars. The first pillar is the education, which includes families and schools, the second one is the penalizing one, which includes police authorities and the judiciary” – said Prof. Dr. Kastriot Haxhirexha.
While the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Qebir Avziu, said that our society is less aware of this issue, compared to the number of drug users, which is extremely large in the Municipalities of Tetovo and Gostivar. “The aim of this debate we organized today was to introduce university students and high school students with the consequences of drugs in terms of health and the legal aspect. Recent statistics show worrisome data about our society in terms of drug abuse” – said Prof. Dr. Qebir Avziu.
While the coordinator of the Center for Development and Advancement of Public Life, Borislav Pavlovski, said that part of the service programs offered by this center is also the program for drug addicts. He said that so far the number of people who came to get services at this center is extremely high, about 493 drug addicts, and it doesn’t mean that this is their real number.
The abovementioned faculties have continuously organized activities of this kind and through scientific conferences, and debates like this one is, contribute to the fighting, and preventing the phenomena that endanger young people’s health, well-being and future.
