At the University of Tetova, was held the closing ceremony of the regional Spelling Bee 2026 competition, an event that brought together students from primary and secondary schools from Debar, Kicevo, Gostivar, Kumanovo, and Tetovo, with the aim of promoting the English language and developing language skills. This activity was organized in cooperation with the American Corner – Tetovo, the U.S. Embassy, and the Municipality of Tetovo. During this closing event, prizes and certificates were awarded to the participating students, as well as certificates of appreciation to their mentors, who helped them successfully complete the competition. The students demonstrated in-depth knowledge of English spelling, as well as excellent skills in facing the challenges of the competition.
Present at this event were the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli; the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in North Macedonia, H.E. Mrs. Nicole Varnes; the President of the Senate, Prof. Dr. Kenan Ferati; the Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti; the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Dr. Salajdin Salihi; the Vice-Rector for Finance, Prof. Dr. Aida Baftijari–Yzeiri; the Coordinator of the American Corner in Tetovo, Mr. Gëzim Sulejmani; the Mayor of the Municipality of Tetova, Mr. Bilall Kasami; as well as the award-winning students and their family members.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in North Macedonia, H.E. Mrs. Nicole Varnes, stated that as the United States marks its 250th anniversary this year, it recalls the importance of education, opportunity, and freedom of communication as the foundations of strong societies. She added that initiatives such as the Spelling Bee embody shared values, including a commitment to quality education, investment in the next generation of leaders, and the development of skills that equip young people to succeed both globally and within their communities.
Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, stated that this activity is an important testament to the value of education and the development of language skills among younger generations. He emphasized that the English language today is one of the most important bridges of international communication, opening new doors to knowledge, cooperation, and professional development. Therefore, competitions such as “Spelling Bee” are not only spelling contests, but also an opportunity to cultivate a love for language, to build self-confidence, and to encourage a healthy spirit of competition among young people.

The organization of such an activity, beyond the competition itself, creates an atmosphere of cooperation among schools in the region, where students not only compete but also exchange experiences and knowledge. This makes “Spelling Bee” an event that contributes to improving the quality of education and to strengthening the University’s role as a center that supports young talent.
