On the 84th anniversary of the birth of the founder and first historic Rector of the University of Tetova, the Faculty of Philology, through the study program of Albanian Language and Literature, organized a literary hour with the topic: “Gjergj Fishta and Faik Konica, the two pillars of Albanian national thought and culture”.

During this literary hour, it was discussed how these two titans of thought collaborated and debated; how they represented different worldviews, for the same goal: the development and strengthening of Albania.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani, in his speech emphasized that the month of December gives us the opportunity to honor prominent figures of Albanian history and culture, such as: Gjergj Fishta, the national writer and the greatest epic poet of the 20th century, Faik Konica, the master of the Albanian language, and Fadil Sulejmani, the founder of the University of Tetova. “Today, our Faculty, through the Department of Albanian Language and Literature, organizes this literary activity, the first one held in the spaces of the Corner of Remembrance of Prof. Dr. Fadil Sulejmani, the founder and historic Rector of the University of Tetova. We hope it will serve as an encouragement for other similar events that will help preserve and promote the cultural heritage of our nation”. – said the Dean, Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani.

Then, Professor Nertila Ramadani spoke on the topic “The poetry of the uprising of Gjergj Fishta”, while Professor Albulena Dehari focused on “The role of Gjergj Fishta in shaping Albanian National Identity”.

Professor Kaltrina Sadiki spoke about the role of Faik Konica in the internationalization of the national issue, while Professor Zymbyle Ameti lectured on Faik Konica’s critiques and his vision for the Europeanization of Albania.

During this literary hour, were recited the poems “Atdheu” (The Homeland) by student Egzona Misini and “Vajtim për robëri të shqiptarëve” (Lament for the Slavery of Albanians) by student Sibora Hoxha. The event concluded with an artistic performance on violin by Zulejha Saiti, a student from the Faculty of Arts.
