As part of the program of the XIX International Seminar of Albanology, today at the Corner of Remembrance “Prof. Dr. Fadil Sulejmani”, was held the presentation of the three latest publications by the renowned researcher and professor at the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Izmit Durmishi, was held.

The books presented to the audience were: “Eufemizmat në të folmet shqipe të Maqedonisë“-(Euphemisms in the Albanian Dialects of Macedonia), “Socioonomastika e Pollogut të Epërm”-(Socioonomastics of Upper Pollog), and “Hulumtime gjuhësore”-(Linguistic Research).

These publications were warmly welcomed by the seminar participants, who praised the dedicated work and scholarly seriousness of the author, who has contributed for decades to the studies of the Albanian language, onomastics, and sociolinguistics.

At this event, reviews of the aforementioned books were also presented. Academic, Prof. Dr. Gjovalin Shkurtaj, in his assessment, emphasizes that the work on euphemisms is based on extensive field research and literature, offering a universal approach while remaining closely tied to the specificities of the Albanian language. According to him, Prof. Dr. Izmit Durmishi has made a valuable contribution to the linguistic, social, and cultural understanding of this complex phenomenon.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Begzad Baliu describes the monograph “Socioonomastika e Pollogut të Epërm”-(Socioonomastics of Upper Pollog), as a new methodological approach in Albanian onomastic studies. He points out that this work combines elements of geography, dialectology, sociolinguistics, and semantics, and brings a wealth of toponyms and anthroponyms that shed light on the history, culture, and Albanian identity in this region.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Bahtijar Kryeziu highlighted the fact that the work, with over 1,200 onomastic units collected from the field, is a strong testament to the autochthony of the Albanians in Pollog. According to him, Prof. Durmishi’s work is valuable not only for Albanian linguistics but also for the documentation and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Albanians in North Macedonia.

The latest publications of Prof. Dr. Izmit Durmishi represent an important contribution to Albanology, further enriching the fields of linguistics, onomastics, and social studies. This promotion once again demonstrated that the Seminar of Albanology of the University of Tetova remains a crucial scientific platform where new and valuable contributions to Albanian culture and science are presented and discussed.
