Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Tetova, today through several activities organized by the Scientific Group and the Student Parliament of this Faculty, marked November 14, World Diabetes Day.
Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Kastriot Haxhirexha, said that through this activity, the University of Tetova, namely Faculty of Medical Sciences, makes our city, Tetovo, to be ranked with all the different world cities, which carry out awareness campaigns on diabetes disease. “It’s a great pleasure for me that the city of Tetovo is ranked among these cities, too, under the organization of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. This awareness campaign is organized for several years in a row. It is known that diabetes is a chronic disease, which cannot be prevented, but the problems that may arise from diabetes, can be slowed down or completely avoided due to the care that patients will have for their health. This is the aim and motto of this awareness campaign, so let’s make our citizens aware that with the utmost care, by using the adequate therapy, most of the complications that may come from this disease can be prevented. As far as I can see, students are very well organized and there is shown interest from citizens to be consulted and to measure the level of sugar in blood. Once again I thank the students, the organizing group for the good work they have done today.
Coordinator of the Scientific Group at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Asst. Prof. Arbëresha Bexheti – Ferati, said that she was very satisfied with this activity because there were conducted many free checkups for citizens and most of them were informed in detail about the causes that can lead to diabetes. “Like in every previous year, students and professors of the Faculty of Medical Sciences pay special attention to this day. They give free checkups for citizens in the city of Tetovo and hand leaflets about diabetes and its prevention, as one of the most prevalent chronic diseases, not only among our society but also among other societies, make the public aware of paying attention to this disease. Students i.e. future doctors informed citizens about the preventive measures they should take against the spread of diabetes. We will continue our activities, which aim to raise the awareness among citizens about various diseases” – said Assistant Prof. Arbëresha Bexheti – Ferati.
Students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, divided into several groups, initially informed citizens about diabetes, including free blood glucose tests. They also provided recommendations to the citizens about the foods which should be consumed, as well as they guided them to pay more attention to the physical activities.
