Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani was honored with the title “Friend of Labëria” at the National Gathering “Albanian Language – Our Identity”

On November 15, 2025, at the “Eqrem Çabej” University of Gjirokastër, was held the National Gathering “Albanian Language – Our Identity”, organized by the Patriotic Cultural Association “Labëria – Honor of the Nation”, in cooperation with the host university.

At this nationwide event, the University of Tetova was represented by Prof. Dr. Berton Sulejmani, who presented his paper titled: “The Albanian Language in North Macedonia today (its unequal constitutional status with the Macedonian language)”, addressing essential issues concerning the legal and functional position of the Albanian language in the institutions of the Republic of North Macedonia.

At the conclusion of the event, Professor Sulejmani was awarded the title “Mik i Labërisë”- “Friend of Labëria” by the Presidency of the Patriotic Cultural Association “Labëria – Honor of the Nation”, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Albanology, linguistics, and the promotion of national values. The decoration was presented by Maestro Zhani Ciko, one of the most distinguished figures in Albanian musical art.

The event was also attended by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Bajram Begaj.
