At the Faculty of Law of the University of Tetova, on April 16, 2025, the professor from the USA, internationally known for his expertise in environmental law, Professor Jim Lofton, gave a lecture on the topic: “Environmental protection and the challenges that arise in economic development”.

This activity was attended by representatives of the academic staff of our university as well as representatives from public life and from the country’s institutions dealing with environmental protection.

The Professor of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Fatmir Xheladini, expressed his gratitude and thanks to Professor Jim Lofton for his presence and contribution to enriching the academic discussion, evaluating the topic as extremely important and current for our society.

During the presentation, Prof. Lofton emphasized the importance of establishing a balance between industrial development and the protection of the living environment. The lecture was accompanied by concrete examples from international experience, presenting specific cases related to efforts to improve and ensure the clean operation of industrial plants. Some of the cases presented illustrated the lengthy and complex legal processes that parties follow against plants that damage the environment, as well as the difficulties in confronting the reality that directly affects public health. The professor highlighted the importance of the involvement of legal institutions and civil society to ensure the fair and effective implementation of environmental legislation.

This activity was welcomed by the attendees who appreciated it as a contribution that increases awareness and knowledge regarding the contemporary challenges of environmental protection in the context of economic development.
