In the framework of this meeting, on April 16, the Presidency of the Association conducted a joint workshop on quality assurance in higher education, and on April 17 took place the Scientific Conference of the Balkan Universities Association (BUA) on the topic: “The Goals of Sustainable Development in the Balkan Region”.
This conference was held in two separate sessions, in which participated rectors and scholars from all member universities of BUA, among whom, also professors from the University of Tetova. One of the conference sessions was led by the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, who, as a panelist, presented his scientific paper on “Employer Contribution – the need for quality enhancement in higher education”. The conference was also honored by the presence of the former president of the Association of European Universities, Prof. Dr. Rolf Tarrach.
On April 18, the fifth meeting of the Association of Balkan Universities took place at the premises of the “Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki, with the participation of all rectors of Balkan universities. Initially, the presidency reviewed and approved the applications of the new universities for becoming new members of the BUA.
Subsequently, the Rector of “Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki, Prof. Dr. Periclas A. Mitkas, handed over the presidency of BUA to the Rector of the University of Bucharest, Prof. Dr. Mircea Dumitru, who will lead for a year, until the sixth meeting of the BUA, which will be held at the university he leads. In this meeting, it was also decided that after the University of Bucharest, the presidency will be handed over to the Rector of the University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Nermina Hadžigrahić.
Until now, the Presidency of the Association of Balkan Universities has been held for a single term by the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, the Rector of the University of Sofia, Prof. Dr. Ivan Illchev, and the Rector of Trakya University, Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoglu.
