In following the activities dedicated to Europe Day, organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Tetova and the Institute for Political and International Studies, on May 8, 2023, the Ambassador of Sweden in our country, Ami Larsson Jain, visited the University of Tetova, and was received by the Rector Prof. Dr. Kushtrim Ahmeti, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, Director of the Institute for Political and International Studies, Prof. Dr. Ylber Sela, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Dr. Shefik Shehu and Vice-Dean for Education, Prof. Dr. Ebrar Ibraimi.
Our Rector informed the ambassador about the progress of work at the University, the educational-scientific activity and the contribution that this institution makes for the general good. After the meeting, the Ambassador gave a presentation to the students of the Faculty of Law regarding the process of integration of North Macedonia into the European Union. On this occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli emphasized the fact that we always support cooperation within the overall contribution and in particular in the EU integration process and that the country is facing a very serious process related to the issue of constitutional changes and changes in the Electoral Code, in order to paving the way for the start of negotiations for the country’s full membership in the EU.
The Ambassador of Sweden stated that the future of the Western Balkans is in the European Union. “The Republic of North Macedonia successfully and professionally faced the screening process. Support is required for the further process of European integration. The issue of security, the solution to the unemployment problem, the preservation of democratic values and the fight against crime and corruption remain a priority. Corruption is very harmful as it destroys society and weakens democracy, and as a result the lack of trust in the institutions, it also threatens the functioning of the economy and disrupts competition, and from all of this in the end lose the citizens, businesses and society as a whole “, said the Ambassador of Sweden in RNM, Mrs. Ami Larsson Jain.
In the communication with the ambassador, our students were active and they proved this through questions and comments related to the issue of implementing constitutional changes and the process of involving young people in decision-making.
