Within the framework of the project “Supporting Brain Gain Diaspora Engagement Initiatives in North Macedonia”, financed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a study visit was carried out to Arizona State University (ASU), one of the highest-ranked universities globally according to the Shanghai Ranking.

The delegation represented the two largest universities in the country. From “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University, Rector Prof. Dr. Biljana Angelova and the Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Dr. Valentina Geçevska, participated. The University of Tetova was represented by Prof. Dr. Drita M. Fazlia, Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Dr. Sheruze Osmani-Ballazhi, professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and coordinator of the Office for Quality Management and Evaluation.

The delegation was led by the project coordinator, Erda Qazimi. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with senior leadership at ASU, where they were presented with: the university’s management and operational model; the processes of accreditation for study programs; the alignment of curricula with labor market needs; the approach to students and academic support; and the mechanisms for improving university ranking.

The parties expressed their willingness for cooperation, especially in joint research, knowledge exchange and mobility of students and academic staff, which is expected to contribute to the advancement of academic capacities in North Macedonia.

The visit concluded with the presentation of the University of Tetova at the Melikian Center at ASU, where concrete opportunities for new partnerships were identified.
