At the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tetova, today was held a roundtable discussion on the topic: ” Affirmation of Sociology and the Role of the Sociologist in Society”. This roundtable is a joint initiative between the University of Tetova and the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University of Skopje. The main goal of the discussion is to encourage dialogue about the importance of sociology as a scientific discipline and the impact that sociologists can have in transforming modern society.
The Head of the study program of Sociology, Prof. Dr. Ardita Abduli – Reka, stated that the purpose of this roundtable is the affirmation of sociology as a science and the role of the sociologist in society.
“As the Department of Sociology at the University of Tetova, in cooperation with the Department of Sociology at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, we are presenting an open opinion to inform the public and young people about why sociology needs to remain among the core subjects and why it should continue to be studied by the youth. It is the only science that offers a unique explanation for a wide range of social phenomena and various problems, while also providing a broad set of mechanisms for addressing them. Sociology is a science that encompasses all other sciences, as its primary focus of study is society. On the other hand, we must also emphasize the role of the sociologist in society, who carries a humanitarian mission and, besides observing human behavior in interaction, also offers numerous other mechanisms for the overall well-being of society”, said among other things, Prof. Dr. Ardita Abduli – Reka.
The Head of the study program of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”, Prof. Dr. Ilo Trajkovski said that he is pleased to come to the University of Tetova and hopes that the cooperation between the two institutions will deepen even further. He said that this roundtable will discuss the affirmation of sociology and the impact of sociology in contemporary society, as it is often neglected as a profession and they are here today to defend this profession, as it is very important in the integration of our society.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Ibish Kadriu said that the current challenges in the field of affirming the knowledge of sociology among the new generation of students in both these universities are imperatively common, therefore we share the common opinion that these challenges require the creation of a concrete synergy to take steps of institutional cooperation, as the most effective form to put that professional synergy to the benefit of the current and future student generation of both universities. “For the benefit of promoting sociological studies and research towards achieving this benefit, by opening a sociological paradigm that provides clear direction for the role of sociological fields in the positive development of our shared society, towards the positive evolution in facing modern, European challenges of our society. I firmly believe that a positive advancement of the modern evolution of our society can be achieved with concrete effectiveness only through the actualization and strengthening of the role of sociological studies and research, recognizing the very early fact in the history of human society and the current fact that sociology is the knowledge that deals with social phenomena on a multidimensional level, the knowledge that makes the empirical diagnosis of those sociological phenomena and facts, but which is knowledge that is qualified, that therefore gives legitimacy to the positive solutions that it gives to the flows of social phenomena in the process of boiling within a society. We jointly consider that today’s meeting is a cornerstone that will positivize a necessary cooperation to face the challenges that our university commitment puts before us to provide knowledge, understanding, interest and will to the new generation to affirm themselves as protagonists of the most positive developments in the evolution of our society towards social values that our society will affirm at the level it deserves and that will be able to give it the human dignity it deserves”, – said, among other things, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Ibish Kadriu.
Their views on this topic were also presented by Professor Dr. Abdylnaser Sinani from the Department of Sociology and Professor Dr. Zoran Matevsi from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University.
In this roundtable, particular focus was given to the current challenges faced by sociologists in the labor market and the opportunities to strengthen their position within academic and social institutions in the country. During the discussions, the participants emphasized the need for a more proactive approach in addressing social issues, as well as the importance of sociological research in the development of public policies. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the organization of this event and highlighted the need for more such activities that build inter-university cooperation and stimulate debates in the field of social sciences.
