At the University of Technology and Economics of Budapest in Hungary on 28-29 April 2022, was held the annual conference of the European University Association with the topic: “University values what, why and how”. In this conference participated a large number of personalities from various European universities, while the University of Tetova in this conference was represented by the President of the Senate of UT, Prof. Dr. Kushtrim Ahmeti, Head of the Office for Evaluation and Quality Management, Doc. Dr. Sheruze Osmani, head of the Office of Education, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Neziri and the head of the Office for Science and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Agon Memeti.
This conference, for the leaders of higher education institutions means that special attention should be paid to the protection of values, such as academic freedom, university autonomy and freedom of expression, in order to remain environments defined by freedom of thought and research. It was concluded that universities should embrace their social responsibility, encourage a culture of academic integrity and engage in partnerships that advance their strategic objectives while respecting their principles and values. EUA 2022 offered a platform to discuss which values shape the missions and strategic objectives of European universities and how these values help in leading their activities.
Through plenary sessions and other activities, by offering knowledge about the measures that universities can get to ensure that their values are understood and implemented.
The main focus of attention in this conference were the recent developments in Ukraine, where was provided an overview of how the invasion by the Russian Federation is affecting Ukrainian universities, the measures taken by the Ukrainian authorities and the European higher education community, by reconfirming once again the support for students and colleagues from Ukraine.
The European University Association (EUA) represents more than 850 universities. This association plays a crucial role in the Bologna Process and influences EU policy-making on higher education, research and innovation. Through ongoing interaction with a range of other European and international organizations, the EUA ensures that the independent voice of European universities to be heard and respected.
