Faculty of Medical Sciences marked World Health Day today through several activities. The slogan for this day in 2025 is “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”. This year-long campaign focuses on the health of mothers and newborns, encouraging governments and the healthcare community to intensify efforts to eliminate preventable deaths of mothers and infants.

Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, said that, just like on April 7, 1948, when the World Health Organization held its first assembly and made the decision to take important steps towards raising awareness for global health protection, the University of Tetova is also moving with dedication on the same path – offering services, support, and raising awareness about the importance of public health. “In this significant year, when the University of Tetova is celebrating its 30th anniversary, we proudly emphasize the important role this institution has played and continues to play in serving the health and well-being of citizens. With a qualified academic, administrative, and technical staff, as well as the continuous involvement of the Student Parliament, we create new spaces for professional development and citizen awareness. Through close cooperation with the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University has organized numerous activities directly related to healthcare, such as voluntary blood donation campaigns in cooperation with relevant institutions, as well as seminars and scientific round tables that address sensitive topics such as the fight against cancer and the protection of mental health. We strongly believe that the University of Tetova is increasing its responsibility to be an active part in building a healthier society – a goal that is in line with the mission of the World Health Organization itself: ensuring a better life for all citizens globally,” said, among other things, the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Elezi, expressed his deep gratitude to all those who organized this event. According to him, this day reminds us of the importance of health as one of the fundamental rights of every individual and our collective responsibility to protect it. As the Faculty of Medical Sciences, we remain committed to preparing skilled and compassionate professionals who will be on the front lines of healthcare and scientific developments.

The organizer of this event, the Vice-Dean for Science of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Arbresha Bexheti-Ferati, presented the paper dedicated to World Health Day. “Today, we have gathered to mark an important day – World Health Day. A day that reminds us that health is not only a fundamental right, but also a foundation upon which a bright future is built for families, communities, and our society. This year’s theme, “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”, places the health of mothers and newborns at the center. It is a call to action, to ensure that every woman, regardless of her background or the country she lives in, has access to quality healthcare during pregnancy, childbirth, and the first months of her child’s life. Statistics show a painful reality: every year, hundreds of thousands of women lose their lives due to childbirth complications, while millions of infants do not survive the first months of life. And what is most heartbreaking is that many of these deaths could be prevented with proper care and the necessary investments in healthcare systems. Today, more than ever, it is essential that we invest in healthcare by improving infrastructure, services, and the care of mothers and infants; raising awareness about the importance of prenatal and postnatal care, to prevent complications and ensure healthy starts for everyone, and supporting healthcare professionals – those who save lives every day and work tirelessly to guarantee a better future for future generations. But this is not only a mission for institutions or doctors – it is a collective responsibility. Every individual, every family, and every community can play a role in helping pregnant women, supporting new mothers, and ensuring that every child has a healthy start in life. Let this not be just a day of reflection, but a moment of action. Let us work together for a world where no mother loses her life-giving birth to a new life, and no child dies before having the chance to grow and flourish. Because by taking care of the beginnings, we ensure a hopeful future for everyone”, – said the organizer of this event, the Vice-Dean for Science of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Arbresha Bexheti-Ferati.

At the conclusion of this activity, Prof. Dr. Sani Bajrami, pediatrician neonatologist, gave a very meaningful lecture dedicated to mothers and babies.

As part of the activities for World Health Day, students of the Student Parliament of the University of Tetova set up stands in the city center and called on citizens to pay attention to health, offering services such as measuring blood pressure and sugar levels, distributing educational brochures on general health and suggesting ways to help prevent various diseases.
