Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition of the University of Tetova in cooperation with the Associations “City of Bees” and “Polog Honey” organized the II international competitions for honey quality “Tetovo Honey Awards”.
Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition, Prof. Dr. Xhezair Idrizi emphasized that such organizations are welcomed by our university as they serve the educational-scientific cause. Together with the association “City of Bees” it is the second year that we organize these competitions. We as a faculty will do most of the work through the laboratory or laboratory analysis, where we will determine all the nutritional values that have the honey. On behalf of my name, Rectorate and the Rector of the University of Tetova, I guarantee to Driton – the President of the Association “City of Bees” that all these activities as a faculty will always be supported and welcomed, even though it is a very costly and voluminous job, we are ready both in terms of the laboratory and the people to support it” – said the Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrtion, Prof. Dr. Xhezair Idrizi.
Meanwhile, the president of the Association “City of Bees” Driton Dikena, said that he is satisfied with the number of competitors despite the fact that we are facing with the pandemic. “We must clarify that in honey quality competitions, beekeepers are not in competition with each other, but each honey is in competition with itself. Today is the organoleptic commission, which will give grades based on taste, aroma, color, and all those elements that honey contains. “Then, the honey will go to the Laboratory of the Faculty of Food Technology and Nutrition, and both of these results will be combined and the result will be extracted which honey will receive gold, silver or bronze medals”, said the president of Association “City of Bees”Driton Dikena.
The competition was attended by 350 beekeepers from 17 different countries, not only from the country but also from the region, Western European countries from the US and Australia.
International competitions for honey quality “Tetovo Honey Awards” will include the awarding of several prizes, such as: Gold medal; Silver medal; Bronze medal and the “Golden Bee” Award. Organoleptic tests of honey will be done today, October 31, while laboratory tests will be done after November 2 and will last about two weeks.
