The University of Tetova, on February 17, 2019 marked the 24th anniversary of the beginning of the first lectures. In commemoration of this historic date for the University and Albanians of these areas, the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, accompanied by the academic staff and students, paid homage to the bust of the Albanian education martyr Abdylselam Emini, where he was reminded of his work and sacrifice of the Albanian population for university in Albanian language. Later, homage also was paid at the tomb of the founder, the First and Historical Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Fadil Sulejmani, in a sign of respect and gratitude for his life and work, as well as his contribution to the advancement of Albanian education in the Republic of Macedonia.
Vice-Rector for International cooperation of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Arbër Çeliku, said that in honor of this historic date, was commemorated the first martyr of Albanian education and the first, historic Rector of the University of Tetova. “We Albanians living in these areas, are fortunate to mark two important events today. The first is February 17th as the starting day of the first lectures in 1995, marking a radical turning point for the Albanian population, here in Macedonia, but also for other ethnicities who love education, love science, love work and The University of Tetova has proven this with work, we have created 24 years of university, we have given this country the cadres, who are moving forward the political and social processes and other vital processes for the society”, emphasized the Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Arbër Çeliku adding that February 17, 1995, marked a turning point in the entire society of the country that is now called Republic of North Macedonia, because for Albanians created a stable educational and national platform, broke taboos, broke state repressions that were exercised over the Albanian population of these areas for centuries and today we are proudly and duly celebrating this day, but also the future that will bring us a better social wellbeing and will create a more stable platform for generations to come, said the Vice-Rector for International cooperation of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Arbër Çeliku.
Also, during the day, the University of Tetova’s delegation also visited the University Museum in the village of Poroj, where they once again recalled the days of glory during the first lectures of the UT, when the population and academic staff, together with the students were one, to erect this education hub for the Albanians of Macedonia. All the visitors to the museum were closely acquainted with the originality of the classrooms, where they began the first UT lectures, the archive and the mission that carries this historic hub, which wrote the history of Albanian education in our country.
