42 students from all academic units of the University of Tetova participated in chess competitions organized by the Student Parliament. This is the second year that the Student Parliament organizes the chess tournament and intends to turn this activity into a traditional event.
The president of UT’s Student Parliament, Islam Imeri, was very pleased with the interest of students to become part of this chess tournament, where apart from organizing competitions in different disciplines, special importance was given to the tournament of chess.
Chess tournaments have been developed according to the Swiss system, without the elimination of competitors, but with the collection of points, but unlike the first edition, this year there have been a total of 9 rounds, two more than in the first edition, as the number of participants has been greater.
On March 20, in the premises of the Rectorate of UT, the first five rounds were held, and today, on March 21, the last four rounds took place. The commission for the organization of this competition was composed of three members: Florian Nesimi – Chairman of the Commission, Nazmidin Imeri – licensed referee by the European Chess Organization and Jonuz Vejseli – member of the Commission.
After the end of the ninth round, the commission announced the accumulated points for a total of 42 contestants. In the first place was the last year’s champion, Bashkim Luma with eight wins and one loss, in the second place, Besar Ajdini with 7 wins and two losses, while in third place was ranked Besim Aqifi also with seven wins and two losses but with a lower rating than the second-place winner.
For all participants in this chess tournament, the Student Parliament awarded letters of appreciations, while the winners of the first three prizes were awarded prizes by the Vice-Rector for Education of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Reshat Qahili.
