At the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tetova, was promoted the book “Vite të përgjimeve” by the author Muhamed Halili. The event was attended by professors, politicians, associates of the author, and students. The book “Vite të përgjimeve” addresses sensitive periods of the Albanian reality, presenting narratives and analyses about life under surveillance, restrictions on freedom, and the consequences these have left on our society. It raises questions about freedom, dignity, and the right to live without fear, placing the reader in front of a history that should not be forgotten.
Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Kushtrim Ahmeti, emphasized regarding the work promoted today argues that the author, by returning to the genesis of Macedonian–Albanian disagreements, argues that they stem from two different and often polarizing viewpoints: one dominant or hegemonistic, and the other decolonizing, which opposes subjugation while seeking equal rights. According to his views, the issue of Albanians in North Macedonia is placed within a broader regional context and is connected with developments in Kosovo and Albania, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among Albanian political elites as a key factor in achieving freedom and equality for the people.
The thoughts about the book were also presented by Ibish Kadriu. He stated that the author of the book “Vite të përgjimeve”, in addition to addressing sensitive topics, also awakens the historical memory of the Albanian people in North Macedonia. “He added that the awakening of this historical memory, especially in the sphere of public politics, turns us into “political beings” and also serves as a guide for the many political dilemmas facing younger generations. The author of this book, Mr. Muhamed Halili, being himself a key protagonist in this political movement and having the knowledge and courage to publish and present his political convictions, thoughts, and positions, with a sharp pen presents realities that seem to have been forgotten but are unfortunately still part of public politics today”,- stated Prof. Dr. Ibish Kadriu.
The reviewers of this book, Xheladin Murati and Hasan Jashari, stated that the book is not merely a personal narrative, but a testimony of its time, a reflection of the difficult circumstances through which our society has passed. Their words remained not only on an academic level; they also evoked memories from the past, bringing back into collective remembrance moments from those times, both difficult and significant.
The author of the book, Dr. Muhamed Alili, emphasized that this publication is not autobiographical, but a book based on premises from the past, as well as political and philosophical messages. He stated that the book reflects our past and offers a vision for the future. Dr. Muhamed Alili expressed regret that Albanian politics in general, starting from his generation up to other Albanian political generations, has been a politics of surveillance and coercion. He underlined that it should be acknowledged that this policy was not exclusively that of Albanians in North Macedonia, but rather a policy synchronized with the Democratic League of Kosovo and with the politics of Albania. According to him, at that time there existed a common platform of action, and every movement, whether positive or mistaken, was made in mutual consultation, always with the aim of finding the best possible way forward for Albanians in these regions. Participants in the event assessed that this book is of particular importance because it serves as a living testimony of the political efforts and movements of Albanians in North Macedonia.
