At the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the “NanoBalkan Workshop 2026” began its proceedings. This scientific event represents an important step in strengthening regional and international collaboration in the field of nanotechnology, a discipline that is taking a central role in the development of natural sciences and advanced technological applications. The initiators and contributors of this activity are the academic Prof. Dr. Arben Merkoçi from Albania and the local NanoBalkan staff: The Vice Dean for Science of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Jashari, Prof. Dr. Bashkim Ziberi, and Prof. Dr. Arianit Reka – the coordinator. The solemn opening of the workshop was also attended by the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, and the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Prof. Dr. Florim Idrizi.

Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, expressed his gratitude to all the organizers who contributed to the organization of this workshop and emphasized that the very fact that “NanoBalkan” is being held today at the UT, with representatives, scientists, and researchers from many different countries, represents both a challenge and a responsibility. “Today, together with you, we pledge that we will continue to plant the roots of “NanoBalkan” at the University of Tetova, and I am confident that in the near future, together we will establish a new laboratory dedicated specifically to the field of nanotechnology, so that our university can provide researchers and students with the means to carry out their projects and analyses”,- said the Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli.

Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and at the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Florim Idrizi, stated that nanotechnology contributes to the creation of materials with new properties, the development of intelligent systems, and the provision of innovative solutions in medicine, energy, electronics, and environmental protection. According to the Dean, this workshop provides an important academic space for presenting research results, exchanging experiences, discussing contemporary methodologies, and identifying new directions for scientific research.

The academic Prof. Arben Merkoçi, in his speech, thanked everyone for their participation and expressed gratitude to the University of Tetova for its hospitality. He stated that nanotechnology is a very open and highly interdisciplinary field, involving expertise from a wide range of areas, including chemistry, biology, chemical sciences, materials science, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and more. It is a field that provides opportunities for engineering researchers to work and collaborate, as cooperation is extremely important in this area. He emphasized that this meeting will serve to foster further collaborations between research groups, as well as to familiarize participants with the infrastructure and capabilities available to colleagues and researchers at the University of Tetova.

The workshop’s sessions will conclude tomorrow. This activity contributes to building sustainable collaboration networks, which are essential for implementing joint projects, participating in international research programs, and transferring knowledge to industry and society.
