At the initiative of the Student Parliament of the University of Tetova, specifically the students of the study program of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philology, a debate was held today at UT on the topic: “AI: Are the Benefits Worth the Risks?” The debate explored arguments both for and against the use of artificial intelligence. Supporting its use were students Agnesa Rexhepi, Elma Mazllami, and Iknura Bahtijareska, who presented arguments highlighting the numerous benefits that artificial intelligence offers. They emphasized the use of AI in education, where it helps personalize the learning process and facilitates scientific research, as well as in healthcare, where it contributes to more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments. Another point raised by the pro team was the historical journey of technological development, stressing that every new era initially brings fear, but eventually results in an improvement in the quality of human life.

Meanwhile, students Rona Munishi, Bedrana Hebibi, and Enisa Amzai presented the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence. They discussed the lack of control over AI, ethical concerns, privacy violations, and the loss of jobs due to automation. They also raised concerns about excessive dependence on technology, which can negatively affect the development of individuals’ mental and creative abilities.

During the event, Fulbright assistant from the United States, Michelle Morgan, spoke to the students about developing skills in structuring arguments for a successful and professional discussion.

This debate was evaluated as an initiative that encourages critical thinking, strengthens students’ communication skills, and promotes discussion on contemporary issues.
