On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the Faculty of Law of the University of Tetova, in cooperation with the Center for Understanding and Institutional Cooperation, organized a scientific forum dedicated to human rights.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Qebir Avziu, said that the value of the democratic world is respect for human rights and freedoms. He called for as much respect and attention to the rights and freedoms of each individual as possible. “If man has done something good for himself and mankind, it is undoubtedly the law. There is nothing better than the law for man and if there is something good in democratic states then they are the concepts of human rights and fundamental freedoms that differ from state to state. We are witnessing that more than 77 countries do not respect human freedoms and fundamental human rights, as envisaged by the Universal Declaration on Freedoms and Rights of People. In many states death penalty is still in force. I want to share with you just one case: over 350 people are expected to be executed in 2019. In China, this number is probably even bigger, so starting from these figures all of us jointly have to do more for the human rights and freedoms. Only in this way we will contribute to the protection of citizens” – said Prof. Dr. Qebir Avziu.

Head of the Center for Understanding and Institutional Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Afrim Osmani appealed for sensitizing the public to freedoms and rights that people should enjoy, not allowing for them to be violated in any way. “For us as a Center for Understanding and Institutional Cooperation it is a pleasure to be a co-organizer of this debate dedicated to human rights and freedoms. This day is more special because it is also a jubilee year, the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Freedoms and Fundamental Rights. Human rights and freedoms are constantly violated and will be violated in the future, but we are the ones who will raise their voice for awareness of all who appear to be violators of human rights and freedoms. I believe that our cooperation in this direction will continue in the future in order to inform the citizens about these issues related to the freedoms and rights of citizens” – emphasized Prof. Dr. Afrim Osmani.

In this scientific forum, their attitudes on human rights and freedoms were presented by university professors, Prof. Dr. Ali Musliu, Prof. Dr. Jusuf Zejneli, Prof. Dr. Judythanne McLauchlan from Florida US, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Macedonia, Doc. Dr. Bekim Maksuti, Doc. Dr. Bujar Ameti, President of the Administrative Court of Macedonia, Burim Sejdini and the member of the Constitutional Court, Sali Murati.
