At the University of Tetova today was promoted the book “Macedonian Multiethnic knots – the battle for one or more societies” by the author Prof. Dr. Petar Atanasov, currently Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia. This book is the result of a continual research work in the field of sociology, ethnicity, ethnic groups and multicultural models of coexistence, most commonly in the case of the Republic of Macedonia.
Vice-Rector for International Relations of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Arbër Çeliku, said that the topic that the author has addressed is very current since Macedonia itself is a very multiethnic country. “In our country, for centuries ago Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Serbs, Bulgarians, Roma, Vlachs have lived together. We really speak different languages, perhaps we have cultivated different cultural and living nuances, but in essence, we share a common corpus of human values, which only in today’s circumstances of historical turning points for all of us, we can advance even more in the great alliance of civilization, science, love, peace and tolerance, which is known by the name of Western society” – said Prof. Dr. Arbër Çeliku.
The author of the book, Prof. Dr. Petar Atanasov, said that this book aims the remembrance of arguments about the Macedonian model of multiculturalism. “In this regard it has been made a selection of published proceedings in the past decade, related to the main elements of the model, with their contradiction and emphasis on difficulties as well as eventual choices for the future of society. They are articles that in detail show what was happening after the Ohrid Agreement, problems related to the Macedonian multiethnic model, with factors that affect the social disintegration, data reports on of national and cultural affiliation, with opportunities to build multiethnic democracy in Macedonia” – said the author, Prof. Dr. Petar Atanasov.
For the book spoke its promoters, Prof. Dr. Gjylymsere Kasapi and Prof. Dr. Rubin Zeman. They said that this book comes to the readers at a time when some of these issues are again reviewed in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, especially debates on the use of the language of ethnicities.
