On the fourth day of the Summer School “Youth for the Rule of Law”, a professional lecture was held by the professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Faton Shabani.

In his lecture on topic “Mediation – A successful alternative for dispute resolution”, Prof. Dr. Faton Shabani spoke about dispute resolution methods, which mainly include the judiciary, arbitration, mediation, reconciliation and negotiation. The professor also said that not all disputes end with a solution, and that there is no formula as to which solution is most suitable for a conflict situation. He also spoke about the problems of the modern judiciary and the advantages of extrajudicial settlement methods. During his lecture, he paid attention to the implementation of mediation in the Republic of North Macedonia.  “In order to improve faster and more efficient resolution of disputes of the justice system, the Republic of North Macedonia has placed great emphasis on the resolution of disputes through mediation, as a faster, more efficient and better way for solution. Within the measures taken by the Government is also the publication of the Register of Licensed Intermediaries on the official website of the Ministry of Justice. The register contains the name and surname of the mediator, residential address, contact information (phone number and e-mail address), license number, license issue date and license validity date. In June 2022, the list contains 46 active mediators”, said Prof. Dr. Faton Shabani.

At the end of this lecture, he presented to the students the statistics section with the data on trends in the use of mediation in the period 2016-2021 in the Republic of North Macedonia (statistics processed based on official data provided by the Ministry of Justice, which also manages the Registry of mediation procedures). These data argue the mediation trends mostly in the field of disputes from labor relations, business or insurance disputes.

In the agenda of the program of the Summer School, a workshop was held by the leader of the American Corner in Tetovo, Mr. Sc. Gezim Sulejmani. The workshop aimed to encourage students to put all their ideas into a plan to compile next year’s program in relation to her thinking.

During the day, the group of students participating in Sunny Hill made a visit to the “Lendina e Ambasadoreve” and conducted some fun recreational activities.
