Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti welcomed the approval of the law by the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia for the declaration of a part of Sharr Mountain as a National Park.
Rector of the University of Tetova, Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti considers that the proclamation of Sharr Mountain as a National Park is to be welcomed as the Sharr Mountain with its natural geographical potential has a large number of hydrographic objects that are important for both geodiversity and biodiversity. According to him, the large number of springs, over than hundred, as well as twenty river basins with their main watercourses and tributaries, as well as numerous glacial lakes are foundations for further protection of this natural wealth.
He also points out that the glacial lakes encountered on Sharr Mountain almost all represent objects that are significant to this mountain, with those that are particularly visible such as Lake Bogovinje, Black Lake, Karanikola’s Greater Lake, Lake Krivoshia and Belo Ezero (White Lake). “On behalf of my name and on behalf of the University of Tetova, I would like to welcome this decision to declare a part of Sharr Mountain as a National Park. University of Tetova has always been part of many important processes in our country. Regarding the proclamation of Sharr Mountain National Park, our University in June 2013 in Koder i Diellit together with a large number of scientific researchers led by Prof. Dr. Nexhbedin Beadini- general coordinator of the project and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Krpaç – head of the Institute of Ecology and Technology, for the first time revealed detailed data on the Sharr Mountain massif, the importance of plants and wildlife, vegetation and protection measures, as well as ways of preserving nature and the environment, and many other important biodiversity information that Sharr Mountain possesses. University of Tetova through the Institute of Ecology and Technology has conducted a series of studies on natural resources offered by Sharr Mountain and has assessed that the flora and fauna, but also other objects of special cultural and historical importance to appreciate special protection by the state. Our University has been one of the first initiators for the proclamation of this area as a National Park and through the Institute of Ecology and Technology as well as the engaged professors and scientific staff has helped in the drafting of this law. Also on November last year we participated in the public debate on the proposal – the law for the proclamation of a part of Sharr Mountain as a National Park organized by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning. This debate due to the global Covid -19 pandemic, as you know, was organized through the online platform where representatives of various institutions, scientists, environmentalists and various experts discussed the benefits that will have our country and the inhabitants of the villages of Sharr Mountain with the proclamation as a part of the National Park”- said Prof. Dr. Vullnet Ameti.
He also says that the institution he represents in the future will be engaged with the expertise of scientists, the Institute of Ecology and Technology, as well as numerous collaborators to help in the implementing the law that Sharr Mountain, the National Park to become a reality as soon as possible.
